What are the best ways to advertise your dropshipping store to get more customers?
I created my first online ad on Facebook back in 2012. I saw the power of what an online ad can do for a business, and I have not stopped ever since.
At that time, my wife and I had a brick-and-mortar business—a shop where we rented out gowns. Fast forward today, I no longer depend on just paid ads to bring traffic to my online businesses.
And I will share with you the five that I use—all of which are effective to show my businesses to eyeballs.
- Advertise on Forums
- Use Paid Ads on Different Channels
- Advertise through your blog
- Make deals with influencers
- Pay for solo ads to reach your target market
At the end of this tutorial, what I want you to do is to pick one or two, and stick with them. Advertise your business through these two methods and never stop learning until you get satisfactory results.
Advertise on Forums
There are two ways you can advertise on forums. The first one is to answer questions, and the second one is to pay for ads.
What are forums?
Forums are online sites where people ask questions, and others provide an answer. The two most popular today are Reddit and Quora.
If you are a dropshipper, there is a ton of questions that you can answer, and you can use that answer to direct the reader to your store.
Let us say that you are a dropshipper of drones. In this case, you want to look for questions where people need guidance about this niche.

What you need to do is to click on a question, and then provide your answer. Your goal here is not to spam people. You need to position yourself as an expert.
In a forum, it is generally acceptable to put links to your product pages, provided that you are adding value to the reader. If you fail to do this, the user will report you, and your answer will be collapsed. Multiple violations can lead to account suspension.
Here is my advice: never use forums in a salesy way. Be subtle when leaving links to your product pages. Focus on answering the question. Before you hit the “publish” button, ask yourself: “Did I help this user?”
If you didn’t, delete your answer and repeat the process.
The second method is to pay for an advertisement. This is how the advertising dashboard on Quora looks like:
The cost of advertising varies, and what your pay for are clicks or impressions. Advertising processes on forums like Reddit and Quora work similarly with Facebook and other social media channels.
Use Paid Ads on Different Channels
The second method is to advertise on different channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google.
In dropshipping, my recommendation is to advertise on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, but not on Google and Twitter.
Advertising a physical product on Google is expensive. You are competing for highly saturated keywords, and you are bidding against giants like Amazon.
Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are best for physical products. No matter what you are selling, you will find your consumers on these three platforms.
Twitter, on the other hand, works best for blogs and politically charged channels like podcasting. It is also great for driving people to your YouTube channel.
Here are my tips before you advertise:
1. Know your customer
If you do not know who your customer is, you will never be able to create an ad that is specifically made for this target consumer. You will end up paying for impression that is shown to random people, and you do not want this.
To know your customer, you have to create a customer avatar. A customer avatar is a representation of your target consumer. It has a name, a job, number of kids—it is a make-believe human being that represents who your dream customer is.
2. Spend your money wisely
Just because you have the budget for advertising doesn’t mean you have to splurge on it.
Do not spend money on platforms if your customer is not there. For example, there really is no reason to advertise camping gears on Pinterest. Most Pinterest users are moms, and moms rarely have the opportunity to go camping.
For a product like camping gear, you are better off advertising on Instagram or Facebook.
3. Use the right copy
Copywriting is an art. It refers to the text that the viewer reads. Copywriters are wordsmiths—they know how to spark interest, drive curiosity, and they also use effective call-to-action statements.
No matter how good looking your ad creative is, it will not work if you do not have the right ad copy to make it exciting enough. Copywriters know how to drive a sense of urgency, and they also understand how to press the right buttons to make customers engage with your ad.

4. Use attractive images or videos
Ads are eye candy. They mainly work because of what people see. If you do your graphic art yourself, you may be hard-pressed in producing a creative that captures attention.
You can practice and create your own art from free tools like Canva. Or you can pay someone from Fiverr to do it for. There are artists on Fiverr that can create ads for as little as $15.
You can also create videos and animation on your own. If you rely on a Fiverr freelancer to do all your ads and videos for you, your costs will mount up. This is alright if your dropshipping store is already making money, but not if you are still struggling to make sales.
What I recommend is that you use a software called Camtasia. It is a video editing tool that has pre-loaded templates, animation, and audio. I use this to create my video tutorials and ads. The tool costs only $249 for two licenses.

Advertise through your blog
Some people say that blogging for a dropshipping store does not work.
Even the biggest software platforms have a blog.
Because the best form of advertising is free advertising. Blogging is still the most effective ways to get traffic from Google and other search engines for free.
If you do this right, you can get an unlimited amount of traffic to your store without paying a dime.
To be able to do this, you need to write blog posts consistently. The blog posts you publish must be geared towards your target consumer.
This is why you need a customer avatar. All the content you make should provide helpful content to your target market.
Let us say that you have a drone dropshipping store. What blog posts would make sense?
Here are some examples:
- Top 20 drones that cost less than $500
- How to fly a drone for beginners
- The parts of a drone
- What batteries are best for drones
- Best drones that have an app for your mobile device
As you can see, these are problems that people need answers to. If you can provide these answers, you will establish yourself as an authority in your niche.
And the best part? You can give them a free eBook or lead magnet in exchange for their email address. Now that they are part of your email list, you can send them:
- Marketing materials
- Blog updates
- Coupons and discounts
As you can see, growing your email list is the key aspect of blogging. If your readers trust you, they are more likely to buy from you.
Blogging is tough, yes, and it is always a good strategy to blog consistently. But if you are employed, and your dropshipping store is just your sideline, you may not find the time to write articles.
The best solution to this is to hire an expert blogger or writer. You can find writers on Fiverr, but you would have to sift through the thousands of writers from the freelance platform. Your other option is to contact an affordable freelance writer who can fill your blog for you consistently.
Make deals with influencers
What is an influencer?
An influencer is a popular person on social media. You can find these people on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and all other platforms.
To take advantage of their convincing power, you need to strike a deal with them. You need to contact them and ask if they would be willing to promote your products.
Here are some ways how you can make this happen:
- Send a free product to the influencer
- Pay the influencer
- Ask the influencer to be your affiliate
There are two ways to find an influencer. The first one is to search for them manually. You have to add them to your own social media pages, and then observe how engaged their followers are.
The second method is to use a company like TapInfluence. It is a platform where influencers offer their services to promote someone’s product.
Here, you can find influencers in your niche. You can see their stats, the price they charge, and then you can decide which influencers want to work with.
The other option is to go on Fiverr. There are many influencers here who offer their service. You will pay a fee, and you can also discuss how you want the influencer to do the marketing.
Pay for solo ads to reach your target market
The last method that I recommend is to use solo ads.
What are solo ads?
These are ads that are sent via email. To use it, you have to go to a platform like Udimi. Here, you can find sellers who have thousands of email addresses at their disposal.
No, you are not buying the email address. What you do here is you create an ad, and the seller is going to sell this ad to his email subscriber list.
The beauty of this is that the email lists of these sellers are niche-based, which means you are not sending emails to random people. Rather, you are sending your email ad to a targeted list.
The cost of each email varies from one seller to another. If the cost is $0.59, and you want to send it to only 100 people, then you pay $59.
Before you buy this service, you have to check the rating of the seller. The percentage of the rating represents the sales success of the seller.
If the rating is 30%, it means that out of the 100 people who bought this service from this seller, there are 30 buyers who said that they were able to generate sales from this ad—the higher the rating, the more expensive the ad is going to be.
Online business is not going to thrive without traffic. But you can only get traffic if you find ways to ways to advertise your dropshipping store via paid methods or free ones.
Choose which of these five methods work best for you. Exercise caution before buying paid ads—always test the water and do A/B split testing.
Spend just an adequate amount of money in the A/B split test. If one returned favorable results, scale it to get more page views and ultimately, improve your conversion rate.
