How do you remove Powered by Shopify?

As you may have seen, your Shopify store advertises Shopify at the bottom of your web store. In there, will see a notice indicating that your web store is “Powered by Shopify.”

While this is negligible to many store owners, some find it annoying. It makes their store look free even if they are paying a monthly subscription. However, this tag line only appears if you are using a free Shopify theme.

Despite that, you want to remove Powered by Shopify. But how?

There are two ways you can remove this. The two methods are:

  • Do it yourself through the code
  • Contact Shopify support

Contacting Shopify should be self-explanatory, so I will show you how to remove it whether you have a Section or Non-Section theme.

Learn How to Explode Your Traffic

Method One: Section Theme

Follow the steps below to remove the “Powered by Shopify” text.

  1. Go to your Shopify dashboard
  2. Click on Online Store > Themes
  3. Take a look at the right and look for the action button
  4. Click on the Action Drop Down and choose Edit Languages
  5. Scroll down and look for a box labeled as POWERED BY SHOPIFY HTML
  6. Delete the content of that box
  7. Click Save

This method is not over yet. You need to go to the code of your theme and make some changes from there. Follow the steps below.

  1. Click on Online Store > Themes > Action > Edit Code
  2. Scroll down and expand the SECTIONS area.
  3. Look for the Footer.Liquid line
  4. Find this code: {{ powered_by_link }}
  5. Delete that and click Save

It would be easier if you press CTRL+F, and then use the search box to find that code.

Method Two: Non-Section Theme

Follow the steps below to remove the “Powered by Shopify” text.

To do this, you need to repeat the first steps like as if you have a Section theme. Here are the steps:

  1. Go to your Shopify dashboard
  2. Click on Online Store > Themes
  3. Take a look at the right and look for the action button
  4. Click on the Action Drop Down and choose Edit Languages
  5. Scroll down and look for a box labeled as POWEDRED BY SHOPIFY HTML
  6. Delete the content of that box
  7. Click Save

Now, instead of looking for the Footer.Liquid file, what you have to do is to look for your Liquid.Theme file.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click on Online Store > Themes > Action > Edit Code
  2. Scroll down and expand the LAYOUT area
  3. Look for the The.Liquid line
  4. Find this code: {{ powered_by_link }}
  5. Delete that and click Save

Remove Powered by Shopify: Summary

That easy, right? Do not be overwhelmed with the codes. Just exercise caution and do not just click here and there. Do this slowly, and take one step at a time. You surely do not want to mess up your code, do you?

Now, if you are not confident you can do it, I strongly suggest to just contact a Shopify customer support personnel. I am sure they will help you. That is a lot better than wreaking havoc to your theme’s code.

Good luck!
